One thing I’ve always admired about Safaree Samuels is the fact that he’s never thrown Nicki under the bus. While she’s been less than kind to him, he’s taken the relative high road. Though he appears on “Love and Hip Hop,” he doesn’t discuss her.
But today, when he appeared on “The Wendy Williams Show,” he had to say something. Wendy asked him about everything from Remy Ma’s “SHEther” to his role in Nicki’s career. To be honest, Safaree didn’t spill too much tea but what he did say was worth the listen.
Check out a few of the highlights and the full interview below.
His reaction to “SHEther”: My name just being in it…I was on a flight when it happened and then when I landed, I’m hoping somebody didn’t die because I had about 300 calls and text messages of a whole bunch of people hitting me up.
Who he was to Nicki in her creative process: You know as far as that whole process goes, it was a collaborative effort. She doesn’t sit there and do absolutely nothing but I definitely was a helping force in everything that had to do with creating music. It’s not like I just was a waste man.
The money.
Safaree said he helped her with 100 percent of the song creation process. Wendy talked about the money Safaree would want for his contributions to her career and why he never got paperwork.
“I had my own account. It’s not like we shared…but as far as how money came in, she paid me. I did work and she was the boss of the situation. I had everything I dreamed of, I had.”
Wendy reminds him that Nicki denies owing him anything.
“I had started a whole lawsuit and all that. Then I just fell back from it. Just the lawyers I was dealing with, it was a lot going on behind the scenes.”
Wendy reasons that it would be in Nicki’s best interest to just pay Safaree and be done with all of it.
Safaree says she’s a smart lady.
When Wendy asked how much he would want, Safaree refused to give a number. But he did acknowledge that he’s not trying to stop nobody’s nothing.
Why their relationship ended.
“The last like year, year and a half, it just got really different. We just grew apart. And at the end of the day, Meek had a lot to do with it, with me and her breaking up.”
Wendy reminded the audience that it was Safaree who introduced Nicki to Meek. He didn’t realize that the two were carrying on with a relationship of their own when he discovered that they had two song collaborations on the album.
“I just had an instinct. I had an intuition that there was more to it.”
Wendy reminded the audience that Safaree’s hands weren’t entirely clean.
“I’m not an angel. I’m not a saint and at the end of the day I wasn’t a 100 percent happy. I already was mentally on my way out. And I was like it’s just a matter of time before I physically leave.”
Is Nicki a nice person?
“I can’t speak about other people but I just know for me that’s somebody I spent a long time with. I don’t want to do anything to try to pull her down. But it’s like at the same time, if I helped you get to where you got…”
Wendy said he wasn’t answering the question.
Safaree said, “Right now, I’m here with you and there are people trying to stop me from coming to your show.”
Nicki’s physical alterations.
“It’s 2017. If you’re a woman and you want to feel better about yourself if you had a baby and your breasts sag or you want to make your hips look bigger, I’m all for a woman-if you want to make yourself look nice— you could do whatever you want to do. It’s your body.”
Would he ever consider getting back with her?
“Nah. Yeah nah, not at all.”
How Nicki might feel about him sitting down with her.
“They tried to stop it.”
Wendy says “Don’t stop my hustle honey.”
Finally, Wendy asked Safaree what he would want to say to Nicki, if she were listening.
“Do what’s right. That’s it. Do what’s right. You know what I did.”
