When it comes to making a decision to eat healthier, it's common for people to swap out the sugary foods they used to eat way too much of for fruit, which we all assume is as healthy as it gets. And considering no real nutritional information is put on the bags and small containers that hold fruit, everyone wants you to believe that. But the truth is, not all fruits are created equal.
There are some that are packed with way more sugar than we need to be consuming daily (don't go crazy on bananas and grapes in a day). But there are others that are the perfect alternative to sweet snacking due to their low fructose levels. Did we mention they're also delicious? With that being said, fruit, in general, is never a bad option for a snack, but here are a few that are low in sugars, or less than 15 grams of sugar per serving according to the USDA's National Nutrient Database.
Strawberries
A serving of strawberries (about a cup), depending on how ripe they are, can have about seven to eight grams of sugar.Blackberries
A cup of blackberries has about seven grams of sugar.Grapefruit
Half of a medium grapefruit has about 8.5 grams of sugar.Raspberries
A cup of raspberries can have about five grams of sugar in it, as well as a boost in fiber if your diet needs more of it.Cranberries
A cup of whole cranberries comes in at about four grams of sugar.Peaches
A cup of sliced, raw yellow peaches is about 12 grams of sugar. A little higher on the scale, but who doesn't love a good peach?Avocado
They might not be the first thing you think of when you think about fruit, but avocado is indeed part of the fruit family. It's also notoriously low in sugar. A cup of sliced raw avocado (about 146 grams) is only .96 grams of sugar.Papaya
A whole small papaya (about 157 grams), which is a lot of fruit, is about 12 grams of sugar.Cantaloupe
A large cantaloupe wedge, which is around 1/8 of an entire melon, is about eight grams of sugar.Apples
Apple is another fruit that also has a good amount of fiber (in the skin). Slices that equal out to a cup can contain around 11 grams of sugar. Images via BigstockThe post Ditch The Grapes And Mangoes: Is Your Fruit Of Choice High In Sugar? appeared first on MadameNoire.
