The Not-Too-Early Summer Movie Preview

And while getting some quality beach time in is high on our agenda, so is heading to the movies to check out this year's slate of summer blockbusters. From Idris Elba's hotly anticipated "The Dark Tower" to the ultimate girls' comedy with some of our favorite actresses, summer 2017 is poised to be a strong showing in the cinema. Girls Trip

What happens when four lifelong friends decide to go on the ultimate girls trip down to New Orleans for Essence Music Festival? Drinking and debauchery that's what. In the aptly titled "Girls Trip," Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish take the Big Easy by storm and in the process reinvigorate their years-old friendship and channel their younger, more carefree -- and sexier -- days. All Eyez on Me

June 16th can't come soon enough for "All Eyez On Me" to hit screens. The much-anticipated biopic on rapper, actor and revolutionary Tupac Shakur will be released on what would have been his 46th birthday. Starring newcomer Demetrius Shipp, Jr., "All Eyez On Me" will chronicle Tupac's life from his early days to his fatal shooting in Las Vegas. "Walking Dead" stars Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan also star in the film, along with Jamal Woolard, Kat Graham and Annie Ilonzeh. Everything, Everything

Based on the young adult novel of the same name, "Everything, Everything" tells the story of Maddy (played by Amandla Stenberg), a teenager who suffers from severe combined immunodeficiency, making her unable to venture outside her home without suffering from fainting spells. When her new neighbor Olly begins to develop feelings for her, navigating the budding relationship becomes a challenge. This one is bound to be a tear-jerker, but if you need a good cry and a great story, this could be the one for you. The Dark Tower

Part sci-fi, part western, part thriller and all awesome, "The Dark Tower" is one of the most exciting films hitting screens in 2017. Though its been in the works for years, the movie's finally coming to life with Idris Elba as its star. Based on a series of Stephen King tales, "The Dark Tower" explores the proverbial battle between good and evil, but in a landscape that will captivate fans of all genres. Baywatch

While the "Baywatch" of yesteryear might be synonymous with David Hasselhoff and Pam Anderson's boobs jiggling in slow motion, this summer's "Baywatch" might have a little more for the ladies. Sure will there be half-naked chicks frolicking around the beach? Yes. But with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in the starring roles, the ladies are in for quite a treat. Johnson recently told Variety, "We worked hard to make sure the flesh quota was high: there's more gratuitous boobs, bums, abs, whatever per minute than you can imagine. Plot was important, don't get me wrong, but so was sorting out our slow-motion runs." Thank you for your service, Dwayne. Baby Driver

We have high hopes for "Baby Driver." And that's not just because of the incredible cast that includes Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Kevin Spacey. The fast-paced action has the energy and excitement of a "Fast and the Furious," but with a plot that actually feels fresh. When a young getaway driver named Baby (played by Elgort) meets the girl of his dreams, he desperately searches for a way out of his life of crime. Wonder Woman

We'd be remiss to not include at least one superhero suggestion on our not-too-early summer movie guide. While there are always a slew of big-budget action flicks to choose from, the one we refuse to miss is "Wonder Wonder." Stunner Gal Gadot will be playing the titular role, embodying Amazonian princess Diana of Themyscira who meets American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) when he washes ashore. The two soon set off to help bring an end to World War I with lots of badass action sequences, sexy "will they, won't they" dynamics and plenty of love to hate them villains in-between. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

OK, while we're still waiting for RiRi to have her breakout "Dreamgirls" moment like Beyonce did, we're content with seeing her gorgeous self in this summer's "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets." To be frank, we're not sure about this one. It could be a stunning visual tour de force of the sci-fi variety or it can simply be a hot mess of big budgets and questionable special effects. Valerian (played by Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevigne) are special operatives on a quest to safeguard the universe from an evil force that hopes to destroy life as they know. Not the most revolutionary of concepts, but with Luc Besson directing, we're hoping this will be a memorably beautiful trip to the movies. It

Admittedly, this choice might not be for everyone. We're not even sure it's for us, but we do know it'll be one of the summer's most talked-about flicks. "It" -- yes, the mini-series that gave us more nightmares than we'd be willing to admit -- is making its way to the big screen. The movie chronicles the lives of seven children who are tormented by a demented clown named Pennywise. The original "It" had a campiness to it that, while still scary, also teetered into the realm of silliness. This 2017 version of "It" is pure terror.
